Learning to read and reading to learn includes phonemic awarness, vocabulary development, fluency, comprehension. Reading is taught across subject disciplines so students are able to learn from a variety of texts such as historical documents, graphs, scientific articles, and fiction. Teachers create a culture of reading by designing literacy rich learning experiences and understanding and teaching reading skills.
